Another Survival Game ?
Wandering Within offers a harsh environment so make sure to never lack food or water. Collect ressources and craft tools to improve your chances of survival. And when comes the night, settle a firecamp to resist the cold of the Desert.
This is not a casual action game. Your survival will mainly depends on your organisation and preparation skills. And remember that death is permanent, so any mistake might be the end of your run and you will to start over in a newly procedurally generated Desert.
While this all sounds pretty basic, don't worry, the game has some twists in store for you !
Orientation as the main challenge
Movement is a key component of the game and orientation is central to the gameplay. It is very easy to get lost in the Desert, especially since the camera is constantly rotating, making it difficult to walk in a straight line. That's why various tools are available to help you find your way such as compasses, antennas, signs, etc.
NPCs will indicate the next point of interest to visit with directions such as: “Walk north for 150 steps and you will find a quarry. Continue west.” It is then your task to follow them as good as possible.
No base building
Wandering Within does not allow players to set up a permanent camp. This constraint encourages players to explore, confront the hostility of the environment and never get too comfortable. This maintains the tension expected in a survival game in the long term.
Anyways, ressources are too scattered. You will die in no time if you stay at the same spot. And you will need to explore the Desert if you want to learn more about the legend...
Lore
You don't believe in legends, do you ?
The universe of Wandering Within is filled with legends and fantastical places. Listen to the stories told by NPCs, read ancient texts or discover paintings representing different myths. May they be linked to your quest ?
If sandboxes are not for you, surely solving the mystery of the chest will be the adventure you need. Go from places to places, collect hints and assemble the pieces of the puzzle in this non-linear story.
The Chest
Legend has it that the primordial Beings wove their powers together to create a wondrous artifact. A bottomless chest, able to hold everything that ever existed. Within it, they hid their most precious belongings, before sealing it forever. No soul knows what lies within, nor where the key might dwell. Countless have searched for it. They all lost hope eventually or perished in this merciless desert. Yet still the chest remains unopened. Guarding the greatest treasure mortal eyes might behold
Try to open a mysterious chest you found by exploring the desert and asking other dwellers about the key.
